Home EV Charger Installation in Dubai: What You Need to Know

Charging at home is the easiest and cheapest way to run an electric car in the UAE: plug in at night, leave with a full battery. But a wall charger is a large electrical load that runs for hours, so it needs proper planning before installation.

Which charger power do you need?

  • 7.4 kW (single-phase): enough for most daily driving; charges a 60 kWh battery in about 8 hours.
  • 11 kW (three-phase): the best balance for most villas; the same battery in roughly 5 to 6 hours.
  • 22 kW (three-phase): faster, but many cars only accept 11 kW on AC, so check your car before paying for it.

Why we check the electrical panel first

Before any quote, the panel, the supply type and the available load must be checked. A villa running many AC units in summer may need load management, so the charger lowers its power automatically when the house load rises instead of tripping the supply. A correct installation includes a dedicated circuit, a suitable breaker, the right type of earth-leakage protection for EV chargers, proper earthing and a cable sized for the real distance.

Where should the charger go?

  • As close as possible to where you park, on the side of your car's charging port.
  • Shaded from direct sun and rain where possible.
  • At a comfortable height, with a cable holder so the cable stays off the floor.
  • Within Wi-Fi coverage if it is a smart charger, for scheduling and usage tracking.

Do I need approvals?

It depends on the emirate, the developer and the type of property. Communities and towers usually require building or developer approval, and the utility may have registration or inspection requirements. We confirm what applies to your site during the visit.
